*Chapter 23*

It took me forty minutes to get dressed, a first for me. I was so elated that I would get to see him today that I was beside myself. If this is what love felt like, then I didn’t want it to end. I knew it was too early to determine what it was but I was going to claim it. Everything had been so natural between us it felt like we had known each other forever. By the time he was at the door, I was ready to go. The smile on his face was so wide I couldn’t help but smile myself. We were like two kids in a candy store. I truly had never felt this much warmth come from another human being before. He was a breath of fresh air and I was willing to soak it all in.

Since it was a last minute date we decided to just head downtown and take in the city. I wanted to just sit down and be able to talk to him freely. I had always just jumped into situations and this had to be different. We would get to know each other, learn what moved us, what motivated us, our fears, our insecurities, our hopes and dreams. That was important to me. I knew it was also important to him. For the first time I was comfortable being myself. We spoke about our faith in God, our childhoods, and what we wanted in the future as individuals and as a couple. Wow, I was now in a solid relationship with an adult.

Connor was opening up to me and telling me things about him that I would have never guessed. He was a dad, his youngest being a toddler. Was I ready for that? I wanted to be a mom but I wasn’t sure I was ready to mother someone else’s children. Some of the horror stories I had heard about with men and their kids’ mom was just not something I was wanting to deal with. He did in fact assure me that there would be no issue but there was still some reservation in the back of my head. I wasn’t going to let that get in the way of the love that I was experiencing with him however. That would just be a new phase of life that I would now be embarking on with him. At least he wanted me to meet his kids. Gabe on the other hand, had made such a big deal about me meeting his son. I never did quite understand what the issue was. Then again, he was completely emotionally unavailable. Now that things had shifted between us, I could not help but wonder how he was handling all the claims in the news. Women and men, were coming forward with claims against him. He had apparently been living a double life. Gabe had contracted HIV from his wife who had contracted the disease while having an affair. I guess his anger and frustration at her led him to pass the disease on to everyone.
